Mixed Border Rejuvenation, Westport, CT
A recent garden rejuvenation in Westport, CT helped an avid gardener, with young children, re-design an existing mixed border to add interest, texture and multi-season color. Much of the existing plant material was dug up, divided and transplanted. New perennials and shurbs were added to update the border and achieve the client's goal of a low-maintenance garden that looks good all year long. Now she has a lovely garden and time to spend with her kids!
Updating the Garden to Fit the Gardener, Cos Cob, CT
A recent garden re-design in Cos Cob, CT aligned this garden with the gardener's current ability to maintain her garden. After years spent taking care of her garden, my client recently found herself unable to perform many garden chores which had been a breeze just a few short years ago.
Her garden, dominated by a large rock ledge, was overgrown with weeds and self-seeding perennials which all seemed to bloom in the fall and required too much maintenance. We choose low-maintenance shrubs and perennials which will look good year round...and we added a stone path, custom fit to her exact stride, so she can still putter when she's able.
A Garden for the Birds (& bees & butterflies), Stamford, CT
A desire to invite more pollinators - birds, butterflies and bees – in her garden prompted the addition of this new perennial garden filled with a mix of native and non-native perennials. As an added bonus, the new bed reduced the size of the lawn area by over 100 square feet, helping to make the garden more sustainable and eco-friendly.
Native perennials such as Asclepias tuberosa (butterfly weed), Baptisia australis (false blue indigo), Eupatorium maculatum (Joe Pye weed), Geranium maculatum (wild geranium), and Solidago rugosa (goldenrod) provide a summer full of color and an endless buffet of food for a bounty of winded visitors. Here’s a short video of the creation of this wildlife habitat garden in Stamford, CT.
